“Room in My Pants” (2019) is a single by indie country singer-songwriter Cindy Jollotta. This rollicking three-minute ditty follows a witty narrator as she playfully addresses the advances of a suitor, making it clear that while she lacks emotional room for another lover, she’s open to a casual encounter — if they’re up to the task.

Joletta’s lyrics depict a narrator who is sexually available but emotionally reserved, using clever wordplay to underscore her point:

If you’re a busy bee who wants to pollinate and leave,
That’s fine by me — I’ll be your daisy.

‘Cause I’m easy… to please,
So if you’re hard… up for company,
Well, there’s room in my pants for you, babe.

Jollotta, who is openly bi, frequently incorporates her queerness into her music. In 2014, she was featured in a New York Times Magazine article exploring the scientific pursuit of validating bisexuality (spoiler: it exists). Later, as reported by The Advocate in 2019, she played a key role in organizing a major Bi Pride Week event celebrating queer visibility. On her official website, Jollotta emphasizes her pride in representing “LGBTQ, body-positive, sex-positive, and women-in-music communities”.

Married but openly polyamorous, Jollotta spoke to Bi.org in an interview about how “Room in My Pants” reflects her bisexuality and polyamorous identity:

I wrote Room as a result of being both bi and polyamorous. So when we first started polyamorous hookups, Dan is a very sensitive person and would always really be into spending time in getting to know someone, whereas I had my walls up a little more. I would be like, “That was fun, thank you, move on. Thank you, next!” (Laughs) We were talking about how I’m very committed to Dan and I only have room for him in my life, but I have room for women in my pants.

So it started out like that, which sounds really awful. I’ve definitely evolved past that. Then I fell in love with a person who changed my mind. But that song did start out as me exploring my bisexuality. Because I’m married, my bisexuality came along with my polyamory. I had to explore those both simultaneously, simply by the fact of me being in a committed relationship while discovering who I am.

Room In My Pants” offers a cheeky, lighthearted take on bi representation in modern music, standing out with its humor and bold approach to sexuality. It’s a noteworthy addition to the country genre, which often remains a predominantly straight landscape. By queering that space, Jollotta enriches the musical world — and we’re all better for it.
