Finn (Designation FN-2187), played by John Boyega, is a major character in the final trilogy of the Skywalker saga section of the Star Wars films, taking on a heroic lead role in Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), and Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Kidnapped as a child and trained by the fascistic New Order to be a Stormtrooper, Finn (formerly known as FN-2187) defects when he refuses to open fire on an innocent group of villagers. He joins the Resistance and uses his years of imperial experience to give the rebels crucial information to help them take down the empire. He is smart and also shows a full range of emotions, sometimes wanting to run from the conflicts because he has inside info on just how powerful his opponent is. This makes for a fascinating hero/coward dichotomy.

In The Force Awakens, Finn shows a clear romantic interest in his new friend, Rey (Daisy Ridley). Finn also has undeniable chemistry with rebel fighter pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), which reads as much more than just battle-tested camaraderie. In The Rise of Skywalker a whole new romance is hinted at with Rose (Kelly Marie Tran).

Unfortunately, this connection does not really get fully explored, leading to accusations of queerbaiting to the creators of the episodes.
