Liza Collins is one of two protagonists in Diahanna Aurora Hampton’s historical fiction novel, Find Me At The Disco, self-published in 2026.
Set in New York City during the late 1970s, Find Me at the Disco primarily follows Liza Collins, who has recently graduated from high school abroad and returned to the city. Before starting college, she plans to spend a year gaining experience in the magazine industry. She’ll live in her childhood home with her father, Will, during this time in the hopes that living together will give them a chance to rebuild their relationship, which became distant during her years away at school.
Although Will also wants to reconnect with his daughter, he faces challenges of his own. Between the demands of his job at the camera company Focal and the expectations of his new fiancée, Cynthia, he struggles to make time for Liza. This is made worse by the fact that Will is keeping a secret from Liza about her mother, one that could permanently damage their already fragile relationship.
Told through alternating points of view, Find Me at the Disco examines the complexities of family, love, and societal pressures. Both Will and Liza are keeping secrets, threatening their relationship and their ability to move forward, and the novel asks whether father and daughter can find their way back to each other or whether their secrets will ultimately drive them apart.
Liza begins dating women over the course of the novel, after having previously dated men. Though she’s seen firsthand through her new queer friend group that sharing her love too publicly can be dangerous, the novel doesn’t focus much on her sexuality. As such, Find Me at the Disco does not feel like the cliché coming-out story, as Liza is readily accepting of her first sapphic relationship.
