Famous Bis

Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe, better known simply as Tinashe, is an American singer, dancer, actor, and television personality.

Tinashe got her start in show business as a child actor with bit voice roles in animated shows, including Franklin (1997–2006), Rocket Power (1999–2004), Holly Hobbie & Friends (2006–2009), and Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005–2008), as well as recurring live-action parts in shows such as Out of Jimmy’s Head (2007–2008) and Two and a Half Men (2003–2015). She also appeared in the film Masked and Anonymous (2003) and did motion capture work in The Polar Express (2004).

Her career transitioned from there toward singing, songwriting, and dancing. In the late 2000s, Tinashe was part of the girl group The Stunners, which opened for Justin Bieber on tour. When the group dissolved in 2011, she embarked on a solo career, beginning with alternative R&B mixtapes In Case We Die (2012), Reverie (2012), and Black Water (2013). Her debut 2014 single, “2 On”, featuring the rapper Schoolboy Q, went platinum.

That same year, she released her first studio album, Aquarius, which reached 17th on the US charts. Her musical résumé includes six studio albums, one EP, and four mixtapes, as well as an extensive catalog of collaborations, backup vocals, and dancing, and work as a featured artist, including Kid Ink’s platinum-rated “Body Language” (2014), Snakehips’ triple-platinum “All My Friends” (2015), and “Slumber Party” (2016) by Britney Spears. Tinashe has also appeared or performed as herself on television programs more than 40 times.

In a 2020 interview with Gay Times, Tinashe came out as bi.

It’s not that I don’t like putting a label on it […] But when you say you’re bisexual, a lot of people […] just have a lack of understanding about what it is. And I tend to shy away from terms […] that make people want to categorize me or put me in a box. I don’t like that shit. But I can still give you a general sense of yeah, I’m bisexual. I’m somewhere on the spectrum.
