In 1982, Russo formed Legião Urbana, which quickly became one of the most influential bands in the Brazilian rock scene. Some of the band’s most well-known songs include Faroeste Caboclo, Pais e Filhos, and Tempo Perdido.
Renato Russo’s personal life was deeply intertwined with his artistry. He openly discussed his struggles with bisexuality, drug addiction, and living with HIV/AIDS. His openness about these issues helped break taboos and increased awareness about HIV/AIDS in Brazil during the 1980s and 1990s.
Russo passed away on October 11, 1996, at the age of 36.
