Renato Russo was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead vocalist and founder of the iconic rock band Legião Urbana.

In 1982, Russo formed Legião Urbana, which quickly became one of the most influential bands in the Brazilian rock scene. Some of the band’s most well-known songs include Faroeste Caboclo, Pais e Filhos, and Tempo Perdido.

Renato Russo’s personal life was deeply intertwined with his artistry. He openly discussed his struggles with bisexuality, drug addiction, and living with HIV/AIDS. His openness about these issues helped break taboos and increased awareness about HIV/AIDS in Brazil during the 1980s and 1990s.

Russo passed away on October 11, 1996, at the age of 36.
