Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, known as Megan Thee Stallion, is an American rapper and songwriter.

Born and raised in Texas, Megan was introduced to hip-hop by her mother, Holly Thomas, a rapper known as Holly-Wood, who often took young Megan to recording sessions. By the time she was 14, Megan was writing raps of her own.

Throughout her teens, Megan posted rap freestyles online and began building a following. In 2016, she went viral with her freestyling rap battle, The Houston Cypher. Around this time, she began posting her music to YouTube and SoundCloud.

Megan’s music career took off when she released her debut EP, Make It Hot (2017). In 2018, her single “Hot Girl Summer” became a cultural phenomenon. In 2019, she released the popular mixtape Fever (2019) including the hit single “Big Ole Freak.” The song catapulted her to stardom. In 2020, she released her debut studio album, Good News, featuring guest appearances from stars like Beyoncé and Cardi B with whom she released the viral and controversial song “WAP.”

Today, Megan Thee Stallion ranks among the top female rappers in the world. To date, she has released three studio albums, three extended plays, three mixtapes, and 60 singles. Her 2020 single “Savage” and 2024 single “Hiss” both reached the number one spot on the US Billboard charts, and her music has racked up over 3.3 billion views on YouTube and over 10.8 billion streams on Spotify, averaging nearly 5 million a day. Her work has earned three Grammy Awards and another six nominations, four American Music Awards and another eight nominations, 15 BET Awards, and another 58 nominations, four MTV Awards and another 22 nominations, and three Billboard Awards with another 10 nominations.

Through her music, Megan has become a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and body positivity. Her stage name, Megan Thee Stallion, refers to her tall height and powerful build.

Megan Thee Stallion is bi. In 2020, she publicly posted that she was looking for a girlfriend, and described her ideal type in her characteristically raunchy style: “I like Spanish girls with big old asses, petite black girls, and thick Spanish girls.”

In 2021, during a livestream where she was sharing freestyle, she referenced her attraction to women and playfully said,

I got a n***a, but I think some of you b*tches are cute.

Megan also performed at the 2023 LA Pride in front of an enormous Pride flag. Her 2024 single, “Broke His Heart”, includes the explicitly bi line “I like girls and I like n****s, both of ‘em getting’ ate.”

During her Hot Girl Summer tour in 2024, Megan even took a bi flag from a fan and proudly waved it on stage to cheers from the crowd.
