What Being Bi Means to Me
What being bisexual means to me? It means being attracted to members of the same sex and members of the opposite sex. At the same time. The attraction is by no means 50-50 for me, and I doubt it is for other bisexuals.
If the World Knew About Bisexuals
Bisexuals are not all polyamorous. We aren’t doing it for the attention. I don’t identify as bisexual because I “can’t get a man.” rnrnMost importantly: Bisexuality exists. What did you think the B in LGBTQ meant? It is not a step off into homosexuality. It’s not about being unable to makeup our minds. It’s who we are.
My Path to Bisexual Identity
I knew I was bisexual probably just before puberty hit. I came to fully identify as such in high school, though I spent some years after that being confused, because I liked women more than I did men, but I still had some attraction for men. Was I lesbian? No. Couldn’t be. Bisexual is the identity that makes the most sense to me. This is how I am, and that realization ultimately brought me a lot of peace.
The Toughest Thing About Being Bi
The overall rejection from the LGBTQ community at large. I suppose I should rephrase that to LG, as the community tends to want to erase bisexuality or reject it off of some preconceived notion that we’re all liars. I find this a lot with lesbian women. Time and time again, I see “no bisexuals” in dating ads, or hear stories about people being rejected outright because they identify as bisexual. I don’t understand that. We get a lot of the same disbelief/erasure from the straight community as well. That disdain, especially from the LGTQ community, is painful.
The Best Thing About Being Bi
I can talk about hot guys with my mother, and hot chicks with my dad! I also enjoy the knowledge that I can love anyone, regardless of what they are packing in their pants.
How People Reacted When I Came Out
Pretty much everyone has been supportive, including people I thought wouldn’t be. I’m lucky in that I have family and friends who are open-minded.
