Jenny Brooks

Bi Characters

Jenny Brooks is one of the three main characters in the 2025 romantic-dramedy The Threesome. The role is performed by Ruby Cruz.

Jenny is a graduate student in Little Rock, Arkansas who gets stood up on a date when she gets spotted by and charmed by recording engineer, Connor (Jonah Hauer-King.) When Connor’s perennial crush, waitress Olivia (Zoey Deutch) crashes the impromptu date, the night leads to the three of them getting into the titular entanglement – which, weeks later, we discover leads to both women becoming pregnant. Hijinks and emotional decisions ensue.

Jenny is probably the more fascinating of the two female characters when it comes to her queerness. One could possibly even dismiss Olivia’s queerness as just another factor in her character make-up that has elements of “manic pixie dream girl” syndrome. However with Jenny, she is coming from a place that is surprisingly not seen often on screen when it comes to bi+ people – a religious background. Jenny is quiet but still kind and funny. She has hopes, dreams, and fears just like any other well-written lead character. She is hesitant to tell her parents how the baby truly came about and the nature of her relationship with Connor due to this background. A flaw, perhaps, in a lack of courage, but an understandable one.

And though Olivia initiated the initial sexual encounter, in the third act Jenny brings up how hurt she was that she basically disappeared after their night together, thinking that she actually liked her, and wishing they could at least help each other out during this difficult situation.

Jenny also benefits from being played by Cruz, who identifies as pansexual, so we have a queer person playing a queer character here – still an all-too-rare occurrence.
