Is everyone bi?

Although the population continues to grow, no.

No, but there are far more bi people than most folks think. A 2023 Gallup survey found that 4.2% of US adults identify as bisexual. There are also many people who are bisexual by self-reported attraction/behavior but who choose to identify as straight. It’s not uncommon to hear people say things like “everyone is bisexual, deep down”. While usually well-intended, it’s not a particularly helpful comment. First of all, it’s simply not true. Some people are bi, and some are not. Secondly, while sounding like a validation, these kinds of statements can actually contribute to bi erasure. As stigma and bigotry decrease over time, more people will openly embrace their bisexuality, but bi folks will never be 100% of the population. To pretend that we are would be to render the term meaningless and thus to erase the term altogether.
