In the afterglow of Bi Health Awareness Month, we’re pleased to report that bi representation is still very much blooming this April! After peak Heated Rivalry fever and the likes of Bridgerton saw bi boys stepping into the mainstream spotlight, now it’s all eyes on the girls — and we have a bumper line-up of new shows, celeb news and music highlights… Enjoy!
Triple Bicons Take the Stage at Coachella
The world’s biggest music festival had a buzzy bi line-up that included girl group Katseye (whose band members Megan Skiendiel and Lara Raj both came out as bi last year) and US singer Slayyyter, who is also openly bi. Plus, the legendary “Godfather of Punk” Iggy Pop (once rumoured to have had an affair with David Bowie) made an appearance, too.
Bi K-Chaos (and stability) in XO, Kitty
With Season 3 of XO, Kitty (essentially Heartstopper’s wholesome queer high school utopia but for bi women and set in South Korea) dropping on Netflix, our favourite messy bi is back — and she is all grown up, as Kitty (Anna Cathcart) enters her final year of high school. This series follows her on-off relationship with Mi Ho (Sang Heon Lee), with all the usual match-making chaos of a queer friendship group where everyone insists on staying friends with their exes… But, we also noticed a quiet confidence in her bisexuality, which is no longer a focus of exploration and messiness — a reminder that this doesn’t last forever! Instead, it’s clearly become something that she feels at home in, without it needing to be a big deal — a level of queer self-discovery probably most of us could only dream of having nailed before our eighteenth birthday!
Euphoria: Less Glitter, More Bi
HBO’s much darker answer to a queer teen drama, Euphoria (about Zendaya’s Rue Bennett and her battle with drug addiction), also made a comeback: this time, with far less glitter and more mixed reviews so far — it’s only being released weekly. But, we’re still here for long-time bi duo Rue and Jules Vaughn (played by real-life bicon Hunter Schafer), who didn’t make an appearance in the first episode, but is in the trailer. And obviously, there’s Jacob Elordi. Enough said. So we’re not giving up on it just yet.

Hacks Has its Last Laugh
As if we weren’t already being absolutely spoiled by on-screen bicons, Season 5 (and the final) of Hacks was also rolled out this month. The show follows the rollercoaster age-gap friendship between legendary septuagenarian comic Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and her twenty-something bi leftie writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder). Her bisexuality is made explicit throughout the show in nuanced ways, with some iconic moments of bi allyship from Deborah, too!
You can really see the impact of Einbinder, who is herself bi, bringing her authentic self to the role. After the last season saw their push and pull relationship reach the toxic new heights of blackmail, this one sees the gang back together with a new focus on their undeniable platonic soulmate status — episodes out weekly.
Yes, Jojo Siwa is Still Pansexual…
Last summer, the singer and Dance Moms star Jojo Siwa faced a pretty biphobic backlash after news emerged that she was dating reality TV star Chris Hughes, after previously identifying as a lesbian. The pair met on Celebrity Big Brother, when Siwa had been in a relationship with Kath Ebbs, and broke the internet with the ultra loved-up, over-sharing documentation of their new relationship.
At the time, Siwa spoke openly about how she felt more comfortable with the terms queer or pan. This month, the twenty-two-year-old, who’s just released a new song, “Serendipity” (apparently an ode to how they met: yep, they’re still obsessed), reiterated this when asked about her sexuality in an interview with US Weekly. “Am I in love with a man? Yes! Do I want to spend the rest of my life with him? Absolutely. But does that discredit my past? Absolutely not”, she explained. We’re so here for this! But it’s a frustrating example of the way that bi people experience that continual pressure to prove our identity. Can we finally just leave her be?

The Devil Wears Gaga
Long-time bicon Lady Gaga not only turned 40 recently (March 28) but also just released a new track, “Runway” with rapper Doechii ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (out on May 1st), in which she’s also starring in… We. Cannot. Wait.
High-Profile Bi Families
There often isn’t enough representation of what the bi life cycle and stability can look like, beyond initial coming outs and exploration. So we’re happy to hear that bi queen and actress Aubrey Plaza, 41, is pregnant with actor Christopher Abbott — news which she shared in a recent interview on the podcast Smartless. Plus, Plaza is also the co-creator and a voice actor in Amazon Prime’s new animated series, Kevin, out this month, about a housecat navigating his owner’s breakup.
Speaking of bi families, the first openly bi AFL football player, Mitch Brown (who came out last summer), is also expecting a baby with his partner, Lou Kneck, who we love for openly celebrating his sexuality on social media. Brown told The Daily Aus that the “hypermasculinity” in AFL teams stopped him from coming out for a decade.
In the locker room and in the spas, the chats were all geared around ‘Who did everyone pick up on the weekend?’ Or, you know, ‘she’s pretty hot’, Brown explained. It was never once an opportunity to speak openly or explore your feelings or questions in a safe way.
Soap Star Bi Kiss
Indeed, it’s not all about the bi girls! The British soap EastEnders also made history with an on-screen bi kiss recently, between bi character Oscar (Pierre Counihan-Moullier) and Josh (Joshua Vaughan). In classic bi chaos, this somewhat confused viewers, given that he’d previously been dating Josh’s twin sister, Jasmine… Oscar officially came out to his on-screen uncle last year, saying, “I swing both ways”.
