Princess Nokia

Famous Bis

Destiny Nicole Frasqueri, known professionally as Princess Nokia, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter.

Nokia began her career performing in gay clubs and bars, forming a strong and dedicated fanbase in the New York underground scene. Her breakthrough to the mainstream came in 2017 when her new album 1992 Deluxe went viral. She has gone on to release four studio albums, one EP, three mixtapes, and a host of singles.

Over the course of her career, Princess Nokia has used multiple terms to describe her sexuality, including bisexual and sexually fluid. She also identifies as genderqueer using both feminine and gender-neutral pronouns. In a 2019 interview with Playboy, she explained “Every day I feel different. … I’m a gender non-conforming, androgynous person.” Nokia has been involved in several physical altercations with bigoted hecklers, showing herself to be a person who does not suffer haters lightly.

Oh, honey, I’m inspired by the gays! When I tell you that I’m the gayest person in the world… I’m too gay to function […] I grew up with nothing but queer friends, queer people around me. I am a queer person. When I’m with my best friends, my girls – even if they’re boys – my girls, they inspire me.
