Martin Rossiter
Famous BisMartin Rossiter is a British singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the indie rock band Gene, formed in the late 1980s.
Gene gained prominence in the 1990s Britpop era, known for their melodic sound and Rossiter’s distinctive, emotionally charged vocals. The band released four studio albums between 1995 and 2001, including Olympian and Drawn to the Deep End.
Following Gene’s breakup in 2004, Rossiter went solo. In 2012, he released his debut album, The Defenestration of St Martin.
“I wasn’t remotely interested in a game of hide and seek with the media. I’d have considered that to be a betrayal of the people who’d gone before me and fought for gay rights. I couldn’t be doing with some long running “is he or isn’t he?” debate because that would have been profoundly boring. (…) Admitting that I was bisexual didn’t harm me in the slightest. In the main my sexuality was irrelevant to the songs.”
