Famous BisKevin Barnes is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Barnes is best known as the frontman and creative force behind the indie rock band Of Montreal, which he formed in 1996 in Athens, Georgia.
The band’s early sound was heavily influenced by ’60s psychedelia and British pop, but over time they incorporated a wide range of musical styles, from funk and disco to electronic music and R&B.
Barnes is known for his flamboyant stage persona and theatrical performances, often wearing elaborate costumes and makeup during live shows. He has released over a dozen albums with Of Montreal, including Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? (2007) and Skeletal Lamping (2008).
In addition to his work with Of Montreal, Barnes has also released solo material under the name Aurora Borealis. His solo work often explores more experimental and electronic sounds, and he has cited artists like Brian Eno, David Bowie, and Prince as major influences.
Barnes is openly bi.
Barnes’ exploration of sexuality and gender can be seen in Of Montreal’s music, particularly in their earlier albums which frequently included lyrics about relationships and sexuality.
Barnes has also been open about his experiences with gender identity, discussing in interviews how he has experimented with gender expression and considers himself to be genderfluid.
