Henry Ainley
Famous BisHenry Ainley was an English actor. He began his stage career in the late 19th century, performing in various productions in London’s West End.
In 1912, Ainley joined the renowned Shakespearean company, led by actor-manager Herbert Beerbohm Tree, where he would become known for his commanding performances in Shakespearean roles such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth.
Ainley made his film debut in 1916 and would go on to appear in several silent films throughout the 1920s and early 1930s. He also continued to work on stage and was particularly acclaimed for his portrayal of the lead role in The Green Goddess, a popular play that he performed in for over 2,000 performances.
While Ainley’s sexuality is not well-documented, he is known to have had close relationships with several male actors throughout his career, leading some historians and biographers to suggest that he may have been bisexual.
Ainley himself passed away on October 31, 1945, at the age of 66.
