In 2008, Ezra Miller made a notable cinematic debut with Afterschool, a thought-provoking drama that foreshadowed their ability to tackle complex and nuanced characters. However, it was their breakthrough role in We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) that garnered widespread critical acclaim. 

In 2012, Miller brought Patrick, a charismatic and openly gay teenager, to life in the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This role marked an early instance of Miller’s intersection with LGBT representation in their work.
