FacesAbout Me
Originally from Chicago, now I live in Hollywood. I love tennis (looking to get back into it) and I’m a writer.
What Being Bi Means to Me
It simply means that I can be attracted on an intimately intellectual, emotional and physical level to either males or females.
If the World Knew About Bisexuals
That bisexuality is 100 % its own orientation, not part gay, part straight (depending on one’s leanings). That no matter which way, if any, a bisexual may lean… they are still 100 % bi.
My Path to Bisexual Identity
It was easy for me. In grade school I noticed that I was the only one with school yard crushes on both boys and girls. Oddly, but thankfully, it never bothered me… I liked that about myself and never wanted to be any different.
The Toughest Thing About Being Bi
Answering the same old tired questions/accusations. Also, although I have known so many wonderful gay allies over the years, the meanest words against my orientation have by far been from a small portion of people in the gay community. It’s tough hearing the same arguments that were used against gays, used by gays against bisexuals. They should understand more than anyone.
The Best Thing About Being Bi
It’s freeing to know that someone’s sex is irrelevant to whom I may be attracted to.
How People Reacted When I Came Out
There’s a range. I told my mom, she was incredibly open and supportive, but when my orientation comes up in conversations, she says Gay (which I correct)… because she just can’t comprehend what bisexual is. I once belonged to a campus LGBT group, and a gay young man approached me and requested that I identify as gay because I’m just confusing the “gay cause”. Many people I’ve told presume to know my sexuality more than I do and declare that I am gay and don’t know what I’m talking about. Many others were totally cool and got it.
