I Kissed A Girl

Bi Media

This 1995 song by singer-songwriter Jill Sobule was banned from radio play in many states in conservative parts of United States because it explicitly talked about two women kissing.

The song is about two women talking about their boyfriends. As they gossip, they get closer, and they kiss. The video, featuring Fabio, shows Jill Sobule alternating between different fantasy scenes, some featuring her with Fabio, and some featuring her with her female friend.

In a 1995 interview Sobule said,

I remember having a crush on a girl in junior high school, but I still liked boys very much, and I remember feeling really bad about the crush. If I would have heard a song like ‘I Kissed a Girl’ it would have made me feel better. Wouldn’t it have made you feel better?[1]
