Thomas Hamilton

Lord Thomas Hamilton (played by Rupert Penry-Jones) is an idealistic British aristocrat very much in love with his wife, Lady Miranda Hamilton (later Miranda Barstow). He has a vision for ridding the Caribbean of pirates and setting up an English colony on New Providence Island. He recruits Lieutenant James McGraw (later Captain Flint) to help him in this. 

Eventually, he begins to have an affair with Lieutenant McGraw. When Hamilton’s father finds out about the affair, he has Hamilton put in an insane asylum. He then spreads the rumor that Hamilton committed suicide.
