Sol (played by Sam Waterston) is one of the supporting characters of the Netflix comedy Grace & Frankie (2015-2022). Sol is a retired lawyer who has hippie tastes and has been active in social justice causes for decades. Sol creates an uproar when he and Robert (played by Martin Sheen), his former partner at a law firm, declare they are leaving their eponymous wives Grace and Frankie (Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin, respectively) to be with each other. While Sol (and Robert especially) like to declare that they are gay, Sol still has feelings for his former wife, Frankie ― which is on display during the first season when he goes to bed with her.
While this is an imperfect example of male bi+ representation, it is important to point out that it is showing a demographic rarely seen on television – that of elder, well-adjusted, sexually vibrant queer men.
