Seven of Nine is a fictional character in the Star Trek franchise, specifically in Star Trek: Voyager played by actress Jeri Ryan. She is a former Borg drone who joins the USS Voyager crew after being liberated from the Borg Collective. She first appeared in the fourth season of the show and remained a cast regular until the end of the series. The character was brought back for the new show Star Trek: Picard (2020-present).
Seven of Nine (born as Annika Hansen) is the daughter of Magnus and Erin Hansen, exobiologists renowned for their groundbreaking research of Borg technology and culture. This led to them going on an expedition into the Borg collective, to gather intel for their research firsthand. Due to this, Seven was assimilated into the Borg at a young age, and as a Borg drone, she served the Collective until the crew of the USS Voyager set her free, restoring her individuality and personal freedom. Throughout the series, Seven undergoes a profound journey of self-discovery, mostly dealing with her identity, humanity, and relationships with others.

A major character development for Seven of Nine is the portrayal of her bisexuality and relationships. While in the USS Voyager, Seven forms a deep connection with various crew members, including Lieutenant Commander Chakotay and Captain Janeway.
In the series Picard, which takes place 20 years after Voyager, we see Seven develop a relationship with Raffi, a female Starfleet officer. They look into each other’s eyes — and while the camera pans out — we see them holding hands. Fans and audiences alike took this moment as an opportunity to ask if Seven was bi. Of course, Jeri Ryan took to Twitter/X to respond and clarify:
Oh, Seven is canonically bi, don’t you worry.
