Katherine “Kitty” Song-Covey is a supporting character in Jenny Han’s young adult romance trilogy To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2014–2017), as well as the adapted Netflix franchise of the same name (played by Anna Cathcart). In 2023, Kitty’s character was spun off onto her romantic comedy series XO, Kitty (2023–).

Kitty is a Korean-American teenage girl in a long-distance relationship with Dae, a boy from South Korea. She is offered a full scholarship at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS), where Dae is a high school student, and also a school where her mom studied in her youth. Once she flies there, Kitty finds that love, dating, and her attractions are more complicated than she imagined.

During the first season of the show, Kitty discovers that she has a crush on Yuri, a girl who initially pretended to be in a relationship with Dae to hide from her family her sexual orientation. As they grow closer, Kitty is forced to make a difficult decision and breaks up with Dae soon after winning him back, realizing that she wants to be with Yuri. On her flight to return home, the situation becomes even more difficult when Dae’s friend, Min Ho, confesses having feelings for her.

In XO, Kitty season 2, Kitty’s self-discovery takes center stage as she grapples with jealousy, new romantic feelings, and even an unexpected crush on her classmate Praveena, all while she deals with the unresolved tension after Min Ho’s confession and the uncertainty of her future with Yuri.

A pivotal moment takes place during a school trip when she shares a kiss with Yuri, only for her to pull away, choosing to try to reconcile with her ex, Juliana. Heartbroken but resilient, Kitty decides to accept this rejection and moves on to figure out her feelings for Min Ho, asking in the season finale if she can go with him on a tour with his family instead of having to wait a full year until they’d be able to meet again.

The stage is set for XO, Kitty’s upcoming third season, which will further explore Kitty’s lingering feelings for both Min Ho and Yuri (who is saddened to see Juliana take up with a new love). Only this time, with Kitty out of the closet as a bi young woman embracing her life’s challenges with authenticity and heart.
