Dina, voiced by Shannon Woodward in the video game The Last of Us Part II (2020) and portrayed by Isabela Merced in the HBO adaptation (2023-), is an outgoing, flirtatious, and quick-witted character who often lightens the mood after intense encounters with the infected.
Dina comes to live in Jackson County, Wyoming, where she joins a survivors’ community led by Maria. In the beginning, she is in a relationship with another camp survivor named Jesse and meets Ellie and Joel when they find refuge in Jackson. We are introduced to Dina a few days after she ended her relationship with Jesse.
Dina and Ellie shared an intimate moment during a party held at a church inside the settlement. Dina asks Ellie to dance, and they kiss, marking the beginning of their romantic relationship. Dina made funny comments about Ellie having more chances with Dina than with any other boy in the community.
The next day, they go out together to patrol the area. Due to a snowstorm, they must take refuge in an old library. They spend the night holding each other.
Dina eventually joins Ellie in her quest for revenge. At some point, we discover that she is pregnant with Jesse’s child and is forced to stay behind while Ellie goes ahead. Toward the end of the game, Dina and Ellie are shown raising the baby together, but Ellie’s ongoing quest for revenge ultimately drives her to leave both Dina and the child behind.
