Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams) is one of the main characters in the 1997 romantic-dramedy, Chasing Amy.

Alyssa is a comic books writer/artist who meets Holden, another comic book writer, at a small comic book conference. While the sparks start to fly for Holden, he is surprised to discover Alyssa identifies as gay.

While the term “bi" is (frustratingly) never used throughout the screenplay, Alyssa is a clear example of a bi woman in ‘90s independent cinema. Despite the fact that she is confronted by dismissive queer friends and slut-shaming new paramours, she is a self-possessed, cool, funny woman who refuses to be shamed for her past or present choices.
