Tourmaline (played by Karla Crome) is a supporting character in the Amazon Prime fantasy series, Carnival Row (2019-present). Having fled her war-torn home country, fae (AKA fairy) Tourmaline has settled into Carnival Row as a sex worker and helps out her close friend Vignette (played by #Bi2 Cara Delevingne) when the former soldier sails into town.
A former poet laureate and a gifted illustrator, Tourmaline works hard to keep a sense of humor to buoy her spirits as she takes on life as a sex worker in the Burgue, a district populated by humans. But the show’s writing strives to make her more than a “hooker with a heart of gold”. Introduced as a foil to Vignette, Tourmaline takes pleasure from her male clients but still holds a torch for Vignette, who was her former lover. She is smart, witty, and helpful, giving her friend the inside track on how the world works for their kin on Carnival Row.
