Spanish Jackie is a recurring guest character on the HBO pirate romantic-comedy, Our Flag Means Death (2022-). Jackie is a tavern owner and shrewd businesswoman on the Republic of Pirates, an island that is a safe haven for pirates and is often frequented by the main characters in the story. However, while she is powerful and often willing to help, it can come at a price — often a steep one, up to and including noses for betraying her. She is not a full villain in the show but is not always to be fully trusted — which is par for the course in a pirate story. But that said, she is not without a human side, often citing back pain that can only be relieved through massage. She is often seen with long hair and in a red suit with a frilly white jabot collar.

Jackie is known for having well over a dozen husbands at any given time, which all often see a good amount of turnover in her dangerous line of work. In season two, she makes the crewmate known as the Swede her latest husband due to her attraction to him as well as his deft work as a masseuse. While the show has not yet overtly shown her displaying attraction to anyone other than men, in an interview with fellow cast members Jones and other cast members confirmed Jackie also likely had a passel of wives somewhere as well.

While Jackie is not the most overt of bi representation in Our Flag Means Death, she is yet another deliberate choice in making sure another character is queer in this pirate world we are exploring together as an audience. Here’s hoping we see one of these fabled wives in season three.
