Robyn “Rob” Brooks (played by Zoe Kravitz) is the main character of the 2020 Hulu series, High Fidelity. Rob is a freshly dumped Brooklyn record shop owner who decides to ask her “top five” exes why things didn’t work out to seek clarity on her love life.
While Rob never uses any of the terms under the bi umbrella to describe her sexual orientation, she and her circle of friends are casual and accepting of her queerness. While she has self-destructive tendencies and can have selfish impulses, she is an important character for LGBT representation precisely because she is a nuanced, messy character — a space rarely written for bi characters in media (who are usually either the villains or beyond reproach) — especially when the actor/character is a person of color. Her anguish over her romantic past, while at times self-indulgent, is surprisingly relatable.
