Kat Edison

Kat Edison (played by Aisha Dee) is one of the three main characters in the Freeform romantic comedy show, The Bold Type, starting in 2017 and renewed for a fourth season at the time of writing. 

Kat is the head of the social media department at Scarlet magazine, a forward-thinking publication that resembles a blend between the classic fashion profiles of Vanity Fair and the progressiveness of Teen Vogue.

While Kat is young and sometimes stubborn, she is savvy, driven, and outspoken, often reflecting on her life experience as a woman of color and how that affects how the professional world and others in her life see her. Kat also parlays her experience at the magazine and her interest in local matters into a run at a local political office in the third season.

Kat is willing to face her fears head-on— up to and including her burgeoning sexuality. During the pilot, Kat reveals she has only dated men in the past, but as the season progresses, she falls for fan-favorite Adena (played by Nikohl Boosheri), a lesbian photographer she meets in the course of her work who eventually recognizes her queerness.

When Kat comes out to her friends, admitting that she feels romance and intimacy with men and women, they are incredibly accepting. At this moment, Kat has the coming-out story that we all deserve.
