Jules Allgood, played by Julianne Moore, is one of the main characters in the 2010 comedy-drama film The Kids Are All Right. She is an aspiring landscape architect and married to her partner, Nic Allgood (Annette Bening), an OB/GYN, and a loving mother to two children conceived from an anonymous sperm donor, Paul Hatfield (Mark Ruffalo).
While the film was hailed as one of the first major depictions of a loving same-sex couple raising children in American film, Jules’ infidelities with Paul can be construed as harmful as the actions can reaffirm harmful stereotypes about bi people. And despite her continued sexual affair with Paul and love for Nic, she retreats to labeling herself as gay after the affair is discovered.
