Vanessa Van Helsing (played by Kelly Overton) is the main character of the SyFy television series, Van Helsing.
Vanessa Van Helsing wakes up from a five-year coma to find herself in a post-apocalyptic future where vampires have overrun humanity thanks to the Yellowstone Caldera erupting years prior and blocking out the sun. Vanessa is humanity’s last hope in the battle against the immortals, as her unique blood composition gives her the ability to turn the vampires back into humans.
Throughout the course of the series, this ability makes Vanessa a prime target for the vampires as she continues her search for her daughter, Dylan.
At one point, Vanessa’s friend and neighbor, Susan, shows up as a vampire, but Vanessa is able to turn her back into a human, which results in Susan eventually joining their group. Susan and Vanessa end up sharing a bunk and cuddling while talking about shared experiences, and while it is implied that Susan wants to take things further, Vanessa is chronically disinterested as her focus is always on the vampire uprising.
In a later episode, Vanessa can be seen making out with a male vampire, Theo, as her group tries to negotiate peace. Even though Vanessa doesn’t have time for a relationship, she is clearly interested in men and women.
