Kevin Abstract is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and filmmaker.

Abstract began making music as a teenager, and in 2009 formed the boy band/rap collective AliveSinceForever from members of an online forum he frequented. Select group members would later form the boy band/rap collective BROCKHAMPTON in 2014.

While collaborating with BROCKHAMPTON, Abstract embarked on a solo career and released his debut album MTV1987 in July 2014. The album received critical acclaim and helped establish Abstract as a rising star in the alternative hip-hop scene. He followed up with his sophomore album, American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story, in 2016, which also received positive reviews.

In addition to his music career, Abstract has also made a name for himself as a filmmaker. In 2017, he released a short film called Miserable America, inspired by his experiences growing up in Texas. He has directed numerous music videos for artists including Frank Ocean, Tyler, The Creator as well as multiple BROCKHAMPTON videos and other professional projects.

Kevin Abstract has been open about his sexuality in his music and interviews.

As a bisexual male […] I feel like sometimes I gotta break it down for people […] A lot of my music is about being in love with someone that you can’t necessarily be with, or someone that society says you can’t be with.

Throughout his career, Kevin Abstract has been vocal about his support for the LGBT community and the need for greater representation and acceptance.

His openness about his sexuality has helped to break down barriers and stigma surrounding bisexuality, particularly in the hip-hop and rap genres, where it has historically been marginalized.
