Michael Huffington is an American politician and activist. A former Republican, he represented California for one term in Congress from 1993 to 1995. Huffington was married to Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (born Ariadni-Anna Stasinopoulou), co-founder of The Huffington Post, from 1986 to 1997.

In 1998, Michael Huffington was co-chairman (along with actor and director Rob Reiner) of the organization behind Proposition 10, which increased the California tax on cigarettes by 50 cents per pack. The resulting hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue are being used for prenatal care and for the health care and education of children under six years of age.

Huffington came out as bi in 1998 in an interview with Esquire Magazine and has continued to speak openly about his sexuality and advocate for bi people.

In 2013, Huffington was a signatory to an amicus curiae brief submitted to the Supreme Court in support of same-sex marriage during the Hollingworth v. Perry case.[1]

His film and advocacy work includes serving as producer on the documentary Bi The Way (2008).[2]
