Julia

Bi Characters

Julia is a supporting character in Mariam Rahmani’s 2025 debut romantic satire Liquid: A Love Story. She is a blonde, attractive white woman with a boyish figure and a trendy sense of style.

Julia is the on-again, off-again girlfriend of Adam, the unnamed narrator’s best friend. Described as a messy “it girl,” she is capricious and frequently cheats on Adam with both men and women, leading to repeated breakups over eight years.

As a contemporary artist, Julia creates provocative works using bodily waste, including pedicure shavings bottled in small vials, though the narrator is unimpressed by her art.

Despite these qualities, the narrator describes Julia’s beauty and whiteness and looks with a begrudging admiration, noting she is often what is seen as an ideal sort of woman by men and women alike; the descriptions infer a resentful attraction to her. This comes to a head when the narrator comes across Julia at a party during one of her breaks from Adam, and under the influence of cocaine flirts with and kisses her.

While not entirely a problematic bi character, Julia does not get a ton of fleshing out, or at least not enough to put her in the messy bi category.
