We hate to say it, but Autumn’s creeping in, and so is our new bi horror obsession, with two of our favorite bicons going full scream-queen and rumors swirling that a certain cult classic is finally making a comeback. Prefer your bi content on reality TV or in a superhero suit? You won’t be disappointed, either. Plus, we’re loving the high-profile conversations happening this month about bi parenthood, bi erasure in long-term relationships, and the bi life cycle at every age. So pour yourself something spicy while we spill the tea…
Bi Scream Queens
Whoever decided to cast bicon duo Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) in the new hot queer horror-comedy film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is an utter genius. Einbinder plays a young filmmaker hired to reboot a problematic 80s slasher franchise, with Anderson as the reclusive “final girl” (left alive to confront the killer) from the original film — and, let’s just say, sparks fly… Obsessed.
Changing Relationship with Bisexuality
In support of the release, both actresses have spoken more about their own queer experiences, including Gillian Anderson. In an interview with The Times, she talked about her first relationship with a girl in high school, never feeling like she fit in, and how, when another boyfriend later found out, he broke up with her.
I didn’t [think I was gay], because I’d had a couple of boyfriends. But I definitely felt I didn’t have the language for it… Even later on, when I had other relationships [with women], I’m not sure I ever thought of them as being potentially forever.
However, she shared that she has since become more comfortable with her queerness, despite being in a long-term relationship with Peter Morgan. “The person I consider my life partner happens to be male, but I think I would feel the same way if it were a woman,” she said. “I’d feel, ‘This is my life partner.’ When I was younger, there were parts of my brain that thought [women] were temporary.”
A Bi Canon Comeback
BTW: if you’re bi and haven’t seen the 2009 cult queer-coded horror Jennifer’s Body, starring bicon Megan Fox as Jennifer and Amanda Seyfried as her BFF Anita, you know your homework. Especially because rumor has it that a sequel is set to start shooting in Autumn; according to a new listing in industry publication Production Weekly, it hasn’t been confirmed by 20th Century Studios. However, the original writer Diablo Cody has already confirmed she is working on a script, and both Fox and Seyfried have said they’re on board to return. Let’s manifest!
Bi Chaos in the Closet
In the meantime, if you haven’t exhausted your capacity for queer horror, don’t forget to check out Ryan Murphy’s hit new thriller series The Shards, out now on Disney Plus, streaming weekly. It centers on Bret (Igby Rigney), a closeted bi teen from a 1980s LA prep school, who is juggling a girlfriend alongside secret relationships with male classmates — all with a slasher on the loose. Expect all the classic bi chaos.
More Hallowqueens Incoming
In other Ryan Murphy news, American Horror Story Season 13 is out in late September, and he revealed on Entertainment Tonight: “Everybody thinks it’s a ‘Coven’ season and it’s not. It’s all the seasons.” This will include our bi queen Sarah Paulson playing six to seven roles, amongst other cast members from Ariana Grande to Emma Roberts.
Bring on the Super Bis
However, if superheroes are more your thing, then we have exciting news. The cast for the upcoming Marvel X-Men film (out May 2028) has been revealed at a recent Disney fan event, and it’s looking pink, purple and blue with bicons Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Cyclops and Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue joining the line-up.
Must-Knows in the Music Industry
Indie singer Phoebe Bridgers is making her acting debut in director Lance Oppenheim’s new film Primetime, alongside Robert Pattinson this September. It’s based on the investigative American reality TV series To Catch a Predator, which follows the rise of the Dateline NBC program. She has also just released her third solo record, Lost Weekend. Rumor has it that rapper Cardi B will also be the host of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, which take place on September 27. Plus, she’ll also be performing a medley from her album AM I THE DRAMA? and her new single, “AH HA”.
Bi Brides on Married At First Sight Australia
Apparently, the next 2027 series of Married At First Sight Australia will feature their very first bi female couple, with brides Victoria Sellar and Shona Marino. We love to see this kind of mainstream representation, but it’s not always enough: the show has been criticized by previous cast member Julia Vogl for the flattening representation of her bisexuality, so we’re hoping for more nuance this time.
Coming Out, Again and Again
We all know that bisexuality is often erased when we’re in relationships, plus there are a lot of gendered assumptions about it, too — so we were pleased to see bi comedian Joe Lycett shining a spotlight on this in a recent interview on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast.
He clarified that he’s “never been gay”, despite shocked reactions from fans when he had a baby with his girlfriend in 2024.
Lots of people were surprised… because they were like, but you’re the gay man… Because I’m camp and I do innuendo and all those sorts of things, people have this idea of what that is.
An important reminder: your sexuality and gender identity are valid, in whatever way feels right for you, whatever your relationship status, and you don’t owe anyone else an explanation!
Being a Parent and Out
Another huge congratulations to bi icon Aubrey Plaza, who has welcomed her first baby with partner Christopher Abbott this August. There often isn’t enough representation of what the bi life cycle and stability can look like, beyond initial coming-outs and exploration. So we love to see this representation of our bi family building!
Celebrating our Queer Icons
We were devastated to hear about the passing of Heroes and Nashville star Hayden Panettiere, who came out as bi earlier this year in her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, and she shared in an interview with US Weekly at the time:
That’s something about me I was never able to share with the world, because it was just never the right time. It was either I was too young, and I was being forced to be perfect at all times. I was not encouraged to just be myself. Then came the period where it felt like people coming out, especially women, saying that they were bisexual or liked girls, was a fad. I was afraid that if I was honest, it was going to be like me jumping on the bandwagon. It was a very difficult topic to articulate properly. It’s sad I had to wait until I was 36 years old to share that part of me, but better late than never, right?
We’re also remembering actor Tim Curry, who played the bi-coded Dr. Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and our favorite long-time LGBTQ ally and queer icon Dolly Parton, who both passed away recently.
Congratulations to Missi Pyle
A big congratulations to actress Missi Pyle, who has recently come out as bi, saying that she’s single and ready to find love again, regardless of gender, on the podcast Shut Up Evan. She explained, “I would say that I’ve been mostly in heterosexual relationships, but I have had others, and I think now that I get older, I’m just sort of like I’m looking for a person. Well, persons.” Pyle is currently playing Denise in Amazon Prime’s hit series Sterling Point (which, BTW, has plenty of queer representation!).
