Carrie Brownstein is an American musician, writer, comedian, and actor. She is best known for developing and starring in the hit TV show Portlandia and for being a guitarist and vocalist in the band Sleater-Kinney.

Brownstein was outed as bi by Spin when she was 21 years old. The article discussed the fact that she had dated bandmate Corin Tucker at the beginning of Sleater-Kinney (the song "One More Hour" is about their breakup).[1] After the article was out, she said:

I hadn't seen the article, and I got a phone call. My dad called me and was like, 'The Spin article's out. Um, do you want to let me know what's going on?' The ground was pulled out from underneath me… my dad did not know that Corin and I had ever dated, or that I even dated girls.

In a 2010 interview with Willamette Week, she talked about her bisexuality.

Only because it seems so culturally important to be able to say who you are: I definitely identify as bisexual. Every interesting person I’ve ever read about, sexuality’s all over the map for them. It never was clearly defined. I’ve always just kind of existed in that world of openness. But right now, in terms of the political climate, and with a number of young gay suicides, and with don’t ask don’t tell not being repealed, and with so many politicians still being so aggressively against gay marriage, it is hard not to at least identify in a way that lets people know, "It is OK whoever you are." It’s weird, because no one’s actually ever asked me. People just always assume, like, you’re this or that. It’s like, "OK. I’m bisexual. Just ask."[2]

Carrie continues working on other projects, most recently with St Vincent on a "surrealist meta documentary" called The Nowhere Inn.
