Astrid Sloan, played by Lucy Boynton, is one of the main characters in the Netflix YA satirical dramedy The Politician.

Astrid is the fashionable daughter of a wealthy Santa Barbara family, and dates the popular River at their high school until he dies by suicide, not long after he decided to join the race for student body president. Convinced that River’s lover— fellow candidate Payton— had something to do with his death since he was in the room with him at the time, Astrid enters the race in his stead to spite him of the political win he has been dreaming about.

During the pilot, Astrid mentions to Payton she knows of his tryst with River, noting that she knew full well he was sexually fluid, noting she is “fluid too, sorta.” While she does end up hooking up with another man during the first season, she does not show any attraction to anyone of any other gender. One of the few other references to her sexuality comes from Payton, calling her “bi-curious.” Astrid is a privileged and ruthless character, but she is also clever and resourceful, eventually showing emotional growth and awareness of her advantages by the end of the first season.

Hopefully season 2 will bring us more information about Astrid "bi-curiosity".
