Carol (played by Cate Blanchett), is the eponymous lead in the 2015 drama, Carol.
Carol is an upper-class housewife in the middle of a separation from her husband when she begins a subtle flirtation with a young shopgirl, Thérese, who helps her buy a Christmas toy for her son. The film is based on the classic novel, The Price of Salt (1952) by Patricia Highsmith. While the film often gets hailed as a “modern gay classic”, it is clear from viewing the movie that, while Carol is pursuing Thérese, she had a history and an attraction to her husband — though that had died out before they started their divorce proceedings.
