Marielle Franco (born Marielle Francisco da Silva) was a Brazilian politician, feminist, and human rights activist. 

She served as a city councilor of the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro for the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) from January of 2017 until her death. 

On March 14th, 2018, while in a car after delivering a speech, Franco and her driver were shot multiple times and killed by assailants in another vehicle. 

Franco was openly bi and had been with her partner, Mônica Benício, for over 12 years.
