About Me

I’m a friend, an activist, a partner and a learner. I’ve been involved with the Toronto bisexual community since 1990 and I try to do my little part to create comfortable, safe spaces for people who are discovering bi community and those who have known they have been bisexual for a long time. If you are in Toronto or coming to visit for WorldPride, I would love to say hi and invite you to be a part of bisexual events this June. My partner Catherine is co-organizing FLUID, a photographic exhibition by bi* artists at WorldPride in June and if you would like to know more, feel free to get in touch.

What Being Bi Means to Me

The freedom to be myself. The freedom to explore and to decide what it means to me, on my terms.

If the World Knew About Bisexuals

We are diverse. Whatever my bi identity may be, may not be yours, but all of our identities are to be celebrated.

My Path to Bisexual Identity

I understood and felt comfortable with what bisexuality meant to me at age 16. At age 27 I started to go to Pride in Toronto and enjoyed my first event. At Pride 1990 I saw an information table for the local bisexual group and I wanted to know more, but I was scared that someone I knew, who didn’t believe I was bi, would see me and put me down. rnThe next year, at Pride 1991, I was sitting at that information table, having a wonderful time and talking to people about socials and the local discussion groups.

The Best Thing About Being Bi

I have two favourite memories to share. When I came out to family in 2000, my mom gave me one of the longest hugs I have ever had. Her bottom line to me was that she wanted me to be careful but also happy. rnI will always remember the first bisexual conference I attended, in Boston in 1998. At the end of the conference, leaving an auditorium with several hundred bisexuals, I was so overcome with happiness that I broke down and cried with a smile on my face. It was one of the most intense days of my life.

How People Reacted When I Came Out

My partner quite likes it. 🙂
