Catherine Grace Garner (Best known as Slayyyter) is an American singer, songwriter, and producer whose pop persona has helped make her one of the most defining artists of internet pop.
Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Slayyyter grew up obsessed with Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Marina and the Diamonds, Lady Gaga, and Kylie Minogue. She began writing and recording music while attending the University of Missouri, but left college to pursue music full-time. She briefly worked as a receptionist at a hair salon while recording songs in her mom’s closet, eventually adopting the name Slayyyter and building an audience through songs she released on SoundCloud and social media.
In 2018, she began releasing music, dropping her song “BFF”, a collaboration with Ayesha Erotica. She quickly dropped songs like “Alone”, “Hello Kitty”, and “Daddy AF”, experimenting with beats that combined bubblegum and glossy pop with electronic distortions and Y2K internet culture. Her breakthrough came with the song “Mine” in 2019, which went viral. Her debut mixtape Slayyyter dropped in September of that year and surpassed 100 million streams.
Slayyyter’s music has always been connected with queer culture. Her campy aesthetic and fascination with Y2K celebrity culture have been closely embraced by the LGBTQ community. She has also collaborated with artists like Kim Petras, Rebecca Black, Pussy Riot, and Kesha, and has also performed at Pride and other LGBTQ festivals. Instead of just treating the community as part of her demographic, Slayyyter has said that she is part of it. In a 2026 interview with the Los Angeles Times, she said that she has never targeted a gay audience because she felt she was that audience.
Slayyyter is openly bi, and her sexuality has been central to how she discusses her relationships with queer culture. In a 2023 PRIDE interview, she explained why the LGBTQ community had always felt like home to her.
…I love it! That’s always been my comfort zone. Growing up, my friends were always gay. I’m bisexual. I don’t have a lot of straight friends.
Her relationship with her sexuality has also been shaped by her religious upbringing. Slayyyter attended Catholic school and has spoken about struggling with her sexuality when she was younger, and described performing at Pride and queer spaces as giving her a greater sense of freedom and allowing her to feel a sense of joy in her identity.
When I was younger, sexuality was something I definitely struggled with. I went to a Catholic school and being an adult now, I feel less uncomfortable with it all.
After her breakthrough, Slayyyter signed with FADER and released her debut studio album Troubled Paradise and STARFUCKER in September 2023. She toured with Tove Lo and performed at major festivals including Life is Beautiful. By 2024 and 2025, Slayyyter continued to expand beyond her early sound. She released raw singles like “No Comma” and “Cannibalism” and also appeared on Kesha’s track “Attention!”. In 2025, she signed with Columbia Records, gaining major-label resources while retaining creative control over her music and visual direction.
In 2026, she released WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, which drew from her teenage years growing up in Missouri, 2010s internet culture, and a rough combo of pop, electrogrunge, and punk music.
From recording songs in a makeshift studio in her mother’s closet to performing alongside other bicons like Kesha, Slayyyter built her career around being true to herself, and subverting expectations.
