Esmé Louise James is a British-Australian sex historian and doctoral student who rose to digital fame when she began exploring the sexual history of the world in a series called “Kinky History” on TikTok.
Her saucy takes on ancient sex history have gained her nearly 2.5 million followers on the platform, a popular podcast, a TedX Talk, and a book, also called Kinky History (2023). In addition, she has helmed a documentary project for the Australian government called SexTistics, which reported wide-ranging facts, figures, and statistics about sex, gender, and sexuality. Her mother was the statistician on the project.
