The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (SLOMW) is a reality TV show that explores the culture of marriage and motherhood in the Mormon church. The show follows a group of women who founded MomTok, a popular TikTok channel. Their mission in creating this channel was to find community, challenge the patriarchal Mormon culture, and have fun dancing. The show’s popularity has skyrocketed, with cast members going on to star in shows such as Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelorette.
The cast, mainly Taylor Frankie Paul, have also gained bad press with the swinging scandal that kicked the show off, and a domestic violence incident, which resulted in the recent cancellation of The Bachelorette. SLOMW has set itself apart by displaying truly raw and vulnerable moments and talking about taboo topics. At their core, the cast seems united in their desire to show the good, bad, and messy parts of being Mormon and human.
Though Taylor Frankie Paul has not officially come out as bi, there are breadcrumbs that help build the case. In Episode 1 of Season 2, Taylor says to Miranda, “I won’t bite you, and I won’t kiss you”. Miranda replies, “Not this time”, and chuckles. Further along in the season, in episode three, a more candid conversation takes place during interviews. Taylor clarifies some of the controversy surrounding the swinging scandal, saying that she and Miranda “were making out and we were on top of each other and they all filmed it on their phones”.
In Season 2 Episode 4, the group explores the taboo topic of sex toys and throws a party for one of their cast members who is struggling with pleasure in the bedroom. One of the group members, Demi Engemann, starts the conversation.
Demi: I’m so straight it’s scary.
Taylor: This is not about being straight. It’s just like enjoying the feeling of it.
Demi: You kiss girls. I’ve never kissed a girl.
Taylor: Yeah, but I mean, I’m so straight, too. I mean, I didn’t, like, I didn’t not enjoy it but it wasn’t a turn on. I just did it.
Jessi: It was just fun because you were drunk.
Taylor: Yeah, it’s not that bad, I mean.
The show then shifts to the confessional set, and Taylor says, “Miranda’s a great kisser. I’ve kissed a lot of girls actually, in my life, and Miranda is a good kisser”.
Ultimately, because Taylor has not come out yet, and some of her behaviors seem more voyeuristic than truly bi, we can only speculate for now. We will keep watching to see if any further updates give a clearer confirmation.
