Max Horowitz (Ben Rappaport) is a medical intern introduced in season 3 of Younger (2015–2021). He reconnects with Lauren Heller at a bar, where they realize they went to camp together as kids. After reminiscing, they rekindle their friendship and begin dating. Lauren’s parents are thrilled that she’s seeing a Jewish soon-to-be doctor, but Lauren quickly loses interest.
She decides that Max is too conventional for her free-spirited, bisexual self and ends the relationship to explore dating women again. That seems to be the end of Max—until the final season.
In season 7, Lauren’s father suffers a heart attack, and his doctor turns out to be none other than the kind Dr. Horowitz. Lauren is immediately drawn to him, though she worries he might still be too boring for her. After having an intense sex dream about him, she decides to pursue him romantically.
When she finds Max in the hospital cafeteria, he tells her how much he admires her and how she inspired him to live his truth. He then introduces Lauren to his male fiancé, who is thrilled to meet her and has heard only good things.
