Lauren Heller

Bi Characters

Image/IMDb

Lauren Heller (Molly Bernard) is Kelsey’s friend and eventually becomes Liza’s friend as well in the series Younger (2015-2021). She is ambitious, outrageous, and completely unapologetic about it. She is also loudly and openly bi from the very beginning of the show.

Her biggest relationships in the show are with Max Horowitz, an old summer camp friend that she reconnects with, and Maggie, Liza’s roommate. Max is introduced in season three. He’s a medical intern when he runs into Lauren at a bar. They rekindle their childhood friendship and start a romantic relationship. Things are going well, and Lauren’s parents are thrilled that she’s dating a future doctor. Lauren decides that Max is too boring for her and that she would like to start dating women again.

She ends up pursuing and dating Maggie, Liza’s forty-something best friend, who is an artist. They have a great, albeit brief, relationship before realizing that they’re looking for different things and are better off as friends. They actually remain close friends after the breakup, and Lauren even pretends to be Maggie’s girlfriend to help her out of a bind in season seven.

In the seventh and final season, Lauren’s father has a sudden heart attack, and who should his doctor be but Dr. Horowitz. She is immediately attracted to him and has an intense sex dream about Max. She spends time wondering if she was too quick to end her relationship with Max and considers giving it another try. She finally decides to go for it and rushes to the hospital to confess her feelings to Max.

Things don’t go as planned, and Max introduces Lauren to his male fiancé. They tell Lauren how much she inspired Max to live his best life, and thinking of her gave him the courage to approach his fiancée. Lauren pauses before realizing that this is the answer to all of her problems. She proposes a threesome, and it seems likely that the three of them will end up in a relationship together.

One of the best parts about Lauren is that she is utterly unapologetic and confident. She doesn’t struggle to come out; everyone loves and accepts her, and her bisexuality is not a big deal. She is just bi and living her best bi life.
