Rape is an act of violence. Rape is commited to humiliate and degrade.
Rape is about power and control, violence and aggression, and sadism. The
rapist attempts to force his power or to prove masculinity by contempt
for anyone he wants to consider weaker than himself.
Rape is not sex.
Rape is not about lust or passion.
Rape is a violation of a womans' rights concerning her body.
Rape is preventing a woman from makeing a sexual choice.
Rape is a crime of violence.
Rape is not motivated by sexual disire.
Women do not ask for it.
A woman is not responsible for the Rape.
A woman's attire and clothing is not an invitation or excuse for
Rape.
A woman's social activities are not reason to be Raped.
A woman with an active sexual history does not set herself up to
be Raped.
A woman does not have to show physical injury for an attack to
be defined as Rape.
If a woman is verbally threatened into submitting to sex, that is Rape.
If a woman is intimited into submitting to sex, that is Rape.
If a woman forced to have sex without consent, that is Rape, whether or
not a fight or struggle has happened
If a woman is not in control of herself, having sex with that person
is a crime of Rape.
If a woman coerced into having sex, that is Rape. If a woman has passed
out for any reason, having sex with her is Rape.
If a woman is druged
without her knowledge,
and then someone has sex with her, that is Rape.
If a woman is under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, her desision
making skills are impaired,
taking advantage of this state is Rape.
If an attacker is intoxicated, it is still Rape, and is not a legal
defense.
Agreeing to one form of physical contact does not mean you have
agreed to have sexual intercourse.
Agreeing to have sex with a person does not mean that you agree
to any future encounters.
Date Rape does not happen only between newly introduced people.
Date Rape is common within long time relationships.
Date Rape can occur on a first date.
A former lover can return to Rape.
A husband can Rape
a wife.
A woman can be in a safe place or situation with a person or persons
they thought could be trusted, and still be subjected to Rape.
A woman of any age can be Raped.
An act of incest is Rape.
An emotional response to a Rape does not have to be hysterical.
A Survivors response to assult might be calm, hysteria, laughter, anger,
apathy or shock.
A Survivor should not be told to "get over it" or "to
put it behind them".
A Survivor's process for healing from being Raped, is varied.
A Survivor may wish to be very vocal and talk about it to family and friends.
A Survivor has a right to be supported and have their concerns and needs
validated
by family, friends and service provders.
A Survivor may have healing and recovery issues years after a Rape.
