Sam Fischer is an Australian pop-rock singer-songwriter best known for his 2020 global hit “This City”, which has garnered more than 1 billion streams worldwide.
Born in Sydney, Australia, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a music career (and is now based in London). Following his viral breakthrough, he released his debut album, I Love You, Please Don’t Hate Me, in 2023. Since then, he has collaborated with pop stars such as Demi Lovato and Meghan Trainor, and has toured with Lewis Capaldi and Niall Horan.
In 2025, Fischer publicly came out as bi in an interview with Poppy Reid on the On The Record podcast. He revealed that his wife of more than a decade, Erin, and he are not actually straight — and he is enjoying “playing around” with his sexuality.
You know, I’m not totally straight. And I’ve never said that on the record anywhere … I think I’m just more accepting of myself now…I’m just figuring it all out. And this is the other thing: Technically I’m in a straight marriage … But we’re not straight, and we’re having the f**king time of our lives with it.
He has also spoken about the bi erasure that comes for people in straight-presenting relationships like his, including from within the LGBT community.
In an interview with Attitude magazine in 2026, he explaine that,
Being bisexual is part of my identity, and even though I’m in a heterosexual marriage, it doesn’t make it any less a part of my identity. I think even within the queer community there are a lot of misunderstandings about bisexual people, especially bisexual men, and I would love to normalize it.
He was also very candid about how shame and repression have shaped him, stating:
I would love to be able to erase the shame in others that I felt growing up about it, and I’m just extremely grateful that I’m with someone who knows and loves me for who I am.
Before coming out, he was less open about his sexuality, but now says he is more open and vulnerable about these themes in his music, and that he doesn’t care what other people think!
Given how little positive representation there is for bi men, especially in the music industry — and the biphobia that very much still exists — Fischer’s growing openness about his sexuality adds an important voice to conversations about bi visibility. Through both his music and his advocacy for greater understanding of bi people, he is helping to create a world where others may feel less alone and more accepted for who they truly are.
